Talk by Authors.Asia’s Brain

AUGUST 5, 2010 – Long time since I put any books on Authors.Asia. Pardon my neglect. I’ve been reading, but I have been reading, sci-fi, history, non-fiction, a little romance, even some politics. It seems every time I hear someone talk about a book on TV or radio, I just have to read it. So I think I will start sharing a lot more of the variety of books I read with you. I will still concentrate on Asia and Asian authors, but I’ll put in some other stuff too that might just interest you. Meanwhile, we are at the end of summer. Vacations are over, school and more serious work habits must begin and the weather (at least in my part of the world) will start getting colder. For me that means more time to read. Until I finish my next book…… BE WELL.

FEBRUARY 1, 2010 – I’ve found science fiction that takes place in Thailand.  How I love science fiction and how I love Thailand.  Thank you to Paolo Bacigalupi for writing Pump Six and Other Stories and The Windup Girl.   These books are smart, interesting science fiction.  They could be telling the story of our world to be – I hope not.  But that’s the best thing about intelligent SciFi – it has to be almost possible or maybe even probable - You tell me!  I loved both of these books and look forward to the next one by this author.  Both of these books are available on Amazon.com.

JUNE 30, 2009 – The Brain has been off traveling in Slovenia, Croatia, Austria and Italy.  Nice weather, which wasn’t happening in the old home town upstate New York, USA.  It’s nice to be back even in the rain.  Of course, I have a book to read about Slovenia – I am in love with the beauty of the country and the friendliness of the people.  BUT, I am also half-way through The Last Mughal -by William Darylmple about the uprising in India in 1857 the best researched book I’ve read and most fascinating book I’ve read on this subject.  I am very interested in this particular time in Indian history.  This book is a treat.   I will finish it.

That gets us to a book I mentioned earlier that I was reading The Falcon of Siam by Axel Aylwen.  I never did finish it – I just couldn’t stay interested.  I still have the book and will put it on my shelf to try again another time.

————————-

As you can see I finished Sightseeing, a book of short stories by Thai author, Rattawut Lapcharoensap.  I recommend this book.  It is real.  I hope I have filed away some wisdom from it for future use.

I am now 3/4 of the way through a sci-fi (oh how I love it).  Does anyone know of any Asian authors writing some good hard sci-fi (I’m not mad about the fantasy kind but I would give it a try on recommendation).   Any titles or authors would be much appreciated.

Next on my list to read is a “sweeping swashbuckler” called The Falcon of Siam by Axel Aylwen.  Takes place in the 17th century.  It has good reviews.  Anyone read it?
